Fourth Friday of Easter

Trouble has nothing on us!

From today’s Scripture: “‘Do not let your hearts be troubled.’”—Jn 14:1

Fear is a powerful emotion. It can make us do things we never wanted to do. It can make us see others in a terrible light. It can make us forget what is important in life. It can impede us from being who God wants us to be.

Some of the greatest saints in the Church have been fearless. Courage ran through their veins. They had many reasons to be afraidbut they weren’t.

My guess is that the Gospel we hear today was a mantra they continued to pray: “Do not let your hearts be troubled.” Indeed, through faith, we have nothing to fear. Trouble has nothing on us!

Let us pray: Lord our God, instill in my heart the grace to trust in you, to cast fear aside, and not to let my heart be troubled. Jesus, I trust in you. Amen.
