Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Daily Reflection

Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Humble, loving servants

From today’s Scripture: ““Blessed are the poor in spirit,/for theirs is the kingdom of heaven./Blessed are they who mourn,/for they will be comforted./Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land./Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be satisfied./Blessed are the merciful,/for they will be shown mercy./Blessed are the clean of heart,/for they will see God./Blessed are the peacemakers,  for they will be called children of God./Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,/for theirs is the kingdom of heaven./Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you/and utter every kind of evil against you falsely because of me. Rejoice and be glad,/for your reward will be great in heaven.”Mt 5:3-12

How often do we reflect on the Beatitudes? In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus lays out a way of life that is very different from what society tells us that should be our way of life. The Beatitudes is the New Way of the New Testaments, in which Jesus calls us to use our faith in service to one another.

We are called to be humble, loving servants seeking to build the Kingdom of God. It is a way of life that will change the world, living in peace with one another. Personally, I try to take one beatitude at a time and reflect upon it in my life. Try the same: How can you live the Beatitudes?

Let us pray: Loving Lord please help me to live the Beatitudes in my life so that your Words will give life to all.
