Doors to the sacred

Today’s O Antiphon: O Key of David, opening the gates of God’s eternal Kingdom:come and free the prisoners of darkness!
What is the meaning of this beautiful name of God: the Key of David? This phrase is mentioned twice in scripture: first in Isaiah and again in Revelation. In both places the one who holds the key of David is said to be able to open doors that cannot be closed, and to close doors that cannot be opened.
This sounds poetic, but is actually quite practical! Take sickness as an example. What if we had a special key that could “close the door” on cancer for good, and no power would be able to re-open it? What if we could “open the door” to healing so that anyone experiencing brokenness could be permanently restored to become a thriving member of society?
When we let Jesus fully reign in our hearts, we become vessels of this supernatural power to release the Kingdom of God all around us. Our prayers, our words and our actions are all influencing the physical and spiritual realm at every moment. What “doors” is God leading me to open or to close in this season of my life?
Let us pray: Lord, even when I feel unworthy, I choose to believe that I am who you say I am: your child, your friend, your beloved. I choose to believe you call me and empower me to increase the Kingdom of God around me, so that we experience “on earth, as is it in heaven.”
