Fourth Wednesday of Easter

What God is like

From today’s Scripture: “…whoever sees me sees the one who sent me.” —Jn 12:45

Knowing who God is or what God is like is far from obvious. Some peoples believed once that the sun was God; others that water was God; others that human kings were God; others, that they were God! Still more people have thought that God is angry, hateful and vengeful. Still others, that God is fickle or impetuous.

For Christians, if we want to know God, we look to Jesus. It is that simple, and yet so profound. The next time we listen to, or read through, the gospels, we might remind ourselves: what we see Jesus doing, what we hear Jesus saying – this is what God is like!

Let us pray: Lord Jesus, thank you for showing me who God is, and who you are, as the Son of God. Inspire my heart to long to find you and know you through your Word. Amen.
