Churning for the good

From today’s Scripture: “[H]ope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.”—Rm 5:5
How many of us walk through life disappointed? Our family has let us down, maybe. I didn’t get the job I deserve. My co-workers mistreat me. My spouse doesn’t appreciate me. Maybe even my grocery store ran out of my favorite dessert! It’s easy to dwell on things-as-they-are-not.
St. Paul has for us the opposite message today: “Hope does not disappoint.” God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the Holy Trinity, is active in the deepest corner of our being. Things are churning along toward the good. Always. We may not see it today, or tomorrow, but hope in God’s promise is surely the way to happiness.
Let us pray: God, give me the grace to hope. Let me take the long look, the broadest perspective, at everything that happens to me. You are the source of my life.
