Looking for Yes

From today’s Scripture: “Then the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary…’” —Lk 1:30
We don’t know what Mary’s initial reaction was when the angel appeared, but I have to think there must have been a look of concern on her face to elicit the angel’s response, “Do not be afraid.” It’s natural to fear the unknown. Imagine what goes through Mary’s mind when she hears what is being asked. Jesus also repeats this phrase often in the New Testament because he understands our fears, because he became man. We owe a lot to Mary’s yes.
Let us pray: Lord, help us conquer our fears and copy Mary’s faith in you to be able to repeat “May it be done to me according to your word.”
