What kind of ground are you?

From today’s Scripture: “And some seed fell on good soil…”—Lk 8:8
The parable of the sower is a challenging one for me. Virtually anyone reading this reflection has heard the Word of God proclaimed. The seed has been sown to us. The question is, what kind of ground are we?
I think at different times in our life, we’re different grounds. We all want to be the rich soil that hears the Word and grows strong, but sometimes we let distractions of this life choke out our belief like thorns. Sometimes it feels as though we are trampled underfoot, and cannot grow. But in the end it isn’t our circumstances that define us, but our choice to respond to God’s grace. Let’s choose each day to be like the rich soil.
Let us pray: God protect me from the works of the devil, the distractions of the world and anything else that may keep me from hearing and obeying your Word.
