Unshakeable faith

From today’s Scripture: “Therefore, since it is the creator of the universe who shapes each man’s beginning, as he brings about the origin of everything, he, in his mercy, will give you back both breath and life, because you now disregard yourselves for the sake of his law.”–2 Maccabees 7:23
Today, we follow the story of the martyrdom of Eleazar from yesterday’s Gospel reading. In this passage, a mother encourages the last of her seven sons to continue to keep the faith as he faces certain death, just like his six older brothers did earlier that same day. The mother’s faith is unshakable even in the midst of the devastating pain of watching each of her sons die a torturous death. She is certain that they will all be reunited someday and that the willing sacrifice of their lives will be worth it. Pray that we are able to maintain the same unshakable faith as this mother in the face of life’s difficult challenges.
Let us pray: Loving Father, may we trust in your mercy, you, the creator of the universe, and the one who gives each of us the breath of life.
