Memorial of St. Vincent de Paul

Daily Reflection

Memorial of St. Vincent de Paul

Love one another.

From today’s Scripture: “‘Whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest.”—Lk 9:48

I once heard one store cashier say to a customer, “It’s not my job. . . .” That caused me to reflect on the difference between an attitude of “it’s not my job” vs. an attitude of “whatever it takes.”

Today as we honor St. Vincent de Paul it is clear to me: he had the attitude of doing whatever it takes in order to serve. Without a doubt he had obstacles, but he pressed forward.

If he could do it in 17th century France, I’m confident we too can do it today.

Let us pray: Loving God, you inspired St. Vincent de Paul with love for the poor. Help me today to see the poor in my midst, and to extend a helping hand.
