Our Lady of Guadalupe

A message of dignity

From today’s Scripture: “…Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God, above all the women on earth; and blessed be the LORD God, the creator of heaven and earth….”—Judith 13:18, 19

The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe has been important to the peoples of Latin America since the early years when Christianity was first introduced there. Her appearance to St. Juan Diego was a message of revelation and a message of human dignity.

As the feast has spread in a big way to North America, it brings that same message. The peoples of Latin American origin are as much children of God as the rest of us, and deserve to be treated as such. We can take that on the authority of Our Lady herself.

Let us pray: Jesucristo, Jesus Christ, fill my heart with your light. Maria, Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe, help me to see in our Latin American sisters and brothers the image of God that we see in ourselves.
