The faith of Mary

From today’s Scripture: “…Behold, your mother.”—Jn 19:27
Mary is the first Christian, the first to believe in and follow Jesus. Her “yes” to the Gospel came when she said yes to the angel at the Annunciation. Mary’s faith has always stood out to me. Here she was, a young, about to be married woman, and she did not hesitate to obey God. She continued that “yes” by being a mother and raising Jesus, and when so many others failed him, she stood by the cross at the end.
Jesus gave Mary to his disciple John while he hung on the cross, and by extension, gave her to us as well. Let us see in Mary her beautiful faith and devotion to God.
Let us pray: By the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary, God, help me to stand by you, even if others fail.
