The Great Physician

From today’s Scripture: “Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do. I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”—Lk 5:31-32

The line above is a theme repeated in Scripture. The Lord wants us all. He wants to heal the broken and save the sinner. Continuing his mission, you’ve likely heard Pope Francis’s words that the Church should be a hospital for the sick, not a hideaway for the righteous.

It’s important to remember Jesus loves the righteous, too, but demands conversion. He doesn’t want us to be sinners, but God seems to take particular delight in turning our hearts. We, the living Church, must help in this mission. Let us share our faith, lovingly, with those we encounter who may need the Gospel message. If we can help bring a soul to God, there will be rejoicing in heaven.

Let us pray: God, we are all sinners. Help me to convert my heart to better love you, the Great Physician.
