Second Friday in Ordinary Time

True happiness

From today’s Scripture: “I am going to cry out to the Most High God, to the God who has showered me with favors.” —Psalm 56:3

If we woke up alive today, we already have a huge reason to thank God. Counting our blessings allows us to review all the ways God loves and cares for us. Most importantly, it helps us see the greatness of his power and love.

On one occasion, my sister, a very close cousin, and I talked about the happiest time of our lives. Fortunately, we had more than one to remember, but the three of us coincided on one. It was a time when we lived in humble material conditions, in a house with a dirt floor, in our home country, El Salvador. There we were younger, and life was simpler. We had enough time to share together as a family and have fun playing and laughing—in heaps.

Let us pray: Most High God, we thank you for so many blessings and we cry out to you because you give us a heart of mercy to share them with our brothers.
