Second Sunday of Advent

Daily Reflection

Second Sunday of Advent

Pray with joy.

From today’s Scripture: “I pray always with joy in my every prayer for all of you…”—Phil 1:4

Part of me finds the juxtaposition of joy with prayer odd. Growing up, I would never associate those two words together. When I would hear the word prayer, I would picture someone experiencing some sort of trial or tragedy praying for God’s help or mercy.

It was only as I grew older and had a family that I would consider joyful prayers of thanksgiving for all the gifts and wonderful things God has bestowed on us.

Let us pray: Lord, help me pray, not only when I need your help, but also to pray with joy and thanksgiving for all you have done for me.
