Second Sunday of Lent

Second Sunday of Lent

Encourage me, Lord.

From today’s Scripture: Beloved: Bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God.”—2 Tim 1:8

One thing is certain. As disciples of Christ, we are not spared from suffering. And although we can’t avoid certain trials, we can be proactive to prepare ourselves to endure them to the best of our ability. You might compare enduring challenges in life to running a marathon — the more we prepare, the better we will finish the race.

Lent is a great time to get serious about this preparation, and to ask the Lord, “What can I work on within myself now so that I am better prepared to handle a challenge when it comes my way?” How can we root our faith so deeply, that even when we are shaken, we can confidently say like today’s psalmist, “I believed, even when I said, ‘I am greatly afflicted.’”

You may feel the Lord encourage you to fast, to remove something from your everyday life. Or you may feel Him ask you to add something. Respond obediently to whatever you sense the Lord saying to you, and know that the roots of your faith are taking hold even more deeply in your heart.

Let us pray: Lord, I ask for an increase in the measure of faith you have given me. Show me, today, one way that I can respond outwardly to cultivate the inward strengthening of faith that I seek. Amen.
