Sixth Day of Christmas

What really matters

From today’s Scripture: “Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father in not in him.”—1 Jn 2:15

Which world do I live in most? The world of God or the world of humans? John encourages us not to be trapped by the enticements of this world, but, rather, to embrace the values of the Kingdom. Therefore, money, power, position, and passing pleasures are not what matters. Instead, relationships with God, humans and creation that are full of love, peace, justice, mercy, sacrifice and the like are what matters.

It is always a challenge to let go of the earthly stuff that fills my day in order to live in the way of the Lord. Love of God, love of one another, and love of creation is where the Father lives and where we are invited to live.

Let us pray: Lord, help me let go of the earthly attractions in my life, so I may focus on the divine love that surrounds me.
