Daily Reflection

Sixth Friday in Ordinary Time

Faith is shown by works.

From today’s Scripture: “What good is it for someone to say they have faith, if they don’t prove it by works?”—1 Jas 2:14

Facts speak louder than words. Visiting the sick or prisoners is the best witness than just having faith. Sharing our goods, be it our time, our energy, our knowledge or our money with those most in need, pleases God more than faith without works.

“You see how a person is justified by works, not by faith alone,” this passage from the First Letter of James later adds. The message is more than clear—so let’s get down to business!

Let us pray: Lord, help us to translate every inch of our faith into concrete works of love for our neighbor. Give us the light to identify the work that you ask us at each moment and carry it out.
