Feeling qualified

From today’s Scripture: “‘When the Advocate comes whom I will send…’”—Jn 15:26
How does the word advocate describe the work of the Holy Spirit? The word advocate describes the work of the Holy Spirit because it is how the Holy Spirit acts through us. The Spirit’s work is brought out through us. In the Old and New Testaments, God calls on advocates to speak boldly, whether or not they believe they’re qualified.
There are many people who don’t feel qualified and yet, we have all received the same Holy Spirit as the early followers of Jesus. We receive the Holy Spirit in Baptism, and in Confirmation, the Holy Spirit confirms us in the Christian life, strengthening one to live as an adult in the Church. And we are nourished in the Holy Eucharist. Take time to listen and speak a kind word, or do a kind deed or just sit with or call someone who lives alone. Or best, just be a good neighbor to all.
Let us pray: Come, Holy Spirit, come more fully in my life that I might better see those in need and that I will be a good neighbor. May I live and love in charity towards all.
