Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Anger’s challenge

From today’s Scripture: ”’Whoever is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment.”—Mt 5:22

Anger is common for many. There are things that happen in this world that should make us angry, such as war and injustice. Then there are situations in our lives where anger consumes much of our time and energy. Anger towards another keeps us from being free. It weighs us down and puts us in a position in which we can’t forgive.

What can we do? I pray for another person, who is hard to forgive. I pray that I can see another in a different light. I ask myself, Why am I angry with this person? Life has its challenges, I do not want to be a slave to anger, with a life marked with unforgiveness, but, rather, I seek freedom that comes in forgiveness.

Let us pray: Please, loving Jesus, help me to forgive others. Help me remember your forgiven love for me.
