Sixth Thursday in Ordinary Time

Treat rich and poor alike

From today’s Scripture: “Has not God chosen the poor of this world to make them rich in faith and heirs of the Kingdom that he promised to those who love him?”—1 Jas 2:5

How much do we really trust God? We know that the origin of what we are and have comes from him. The same happens with the next. The talents that our Eternal Father has given us are the foundation that allows us to develop, whether in terms of intelligence, good money management, generosity, sense of humor, etc.

It is also true that the world does not generally put this principle first. And consequently, this is how the world treats people. But, today’s Scripture reminds us that God has chosen “the poor of this world” as “heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him.”

Let us pray: Lord, give us the wisdom and strength to value ourselves and others according to your criteria. Help us to be ever richer in faith, to treat the poor of this world so that we advance towards your kingdom hand in hand with them.
