The presence of Jesus

From today’s Scripture: “‘I tell you the truth, it is better for you that I go. . . . if I go, I will send the him to you.’”—Jn 16:7
Have you thought what it would be like to live during the time of Jesus? Some people say they would’ve liked to walk with Jesus and listen to his preaching. They would like to feed him and offer him shelter. I think the only reason they say this is because they know him from the Scriptures. How would they be different from the first followers of Jesus, who left him?
The disciples of Jesus were sad that Jesus was going to leave them. He tries to assure them that it is really better for him to leave. For as long as Jesus remains with his disciples in his present form, he is limited in his presence with them. Being there in his present form would be fine as long as they are all together, but what about when they are scattered and many more disciples are in distant places? It is through the Spirit of Jesus, our risen and ascended Jesus, that he can continue to be with us, his people, at all times and in all places on the earth.
We have the wonderful presence of Jesus with us in his Spirit. The Spirit that allows us to do as Jesus calls: Love one another as I have loved you.
Let us pray: I pray, God, for the outpouring of your Spirit upon me. Help me so that I might live more fully as a disciple of Jesus and witness his love to everyone I meet today.
