Solemnity of the Assumption

A sneak preview

From today’s Scripture: For just as in Adam all die, so too in Christ shall all be brought to life.”—1 Cor 15:22

Did you ever consider that you will likely be a saint someday? The canon (“list”) of saints tells of those whose lives seem certain to point to heaven, but that’s not the whole story. Our recognition of canonized saints is really a sneak preview for all of us, one that motivates us toward sainthood.

The resurrection of Jesus is bringing all of us along, too! Isn’t that a joyous, hopeful point of prayer? By the way, that’s what this week’s Feast of the Assumption is about, at its deepest: participating in the resurrection of Jesus. Sure, it was special and certain for Mary, but you and I are invited to be part of it.

Let us pray: Lord, awaken me to the resurrection! Help me to get past the day-to-day, to see the deepest meaning in everything around me. Draw me close to you.
