Children of God

From today’s Scripture: “‘For my yoke is easy, and my burden light.’”—Mt 11:30
No one knows exhaustion like new parents do. They’ve seen TV shows, read all the books, they’ve maybe even had training classes from some healthcare provider. And certainly they’ve heard stories from friends and families. But reality is another thing altogether.
One mother once told this writer, “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.” She was talking of sleepless nights, keeping the baby well-fed and in clean diaper. “But it is the most rewarding! Who could resist this precious little one?”
Jesus offers us the same in his invitation to follow him. Yes, times will be hard, sometimes disruptive or even painful beyond what we could have imagined. But, in the face of love, his burden is light.
Let us pray: Lord, help to keep things in perspective—your perspective. Fill me with your grace so that I can do everything which you ask.
