Birth of the Church
From today’s Scripture: This is the one who came through water and Blood, Jesus Christ, not by water alone, but by water and Blood. The Spirit is the one who testifies, and the Spirit is truth.—1 Jn 5:6
The blood of Christ on Calvary and the water that flowed from his side is the baptism that birthed the Church. In this way the Church is continually connected and rejuvenated by him. It is by this same baptism that we are invited into new life, a new identity, baptized into the new humanity and ushered in by the will and sacrifice of Christ.
Let us pray: Merciful and loving Father, renew me with your Holy Spirit. Help me today to serve the needs of the world, of my neighbors and family.
