St. Frances Cabrini

Strive for justice.

From today’s Scripture: While it is true that I neither fear God nor respect any human being, because this widow keeps bothering me I shall deliver a just decision for her lest she finally come and strike me.’”—Lk 18:4-5

We remember Mother Cabrini today, the first US citizen canonized and patron saint of immigrants.  She was a persistent servant of the poor. But you don’t have to be famous to be a servant. There are persistent men and women in every age.

Today we hear of the nameless widow of the Gospel. She demands, over and again, justice from a dishonest judge who finally listens and settles her case. Her persistence for justice is a model for us.

Let us pray: Lord, let me strive for justice in everything I do today. Open my ears, and my heart, to the needs, even the demands, of those who have less, to those who live in unjust situations.
