St. Gregory the Great

The news in Good News

From today’s Scripture: “And news of him spread everywhere in the surrounding region.”—Lk 4:37

There’s nothing like a good story to catch people’s attention. “Did you hear about…?” When something really unusual happens, news travels like wildfire. This was the case as word spread about the marvels this young man, Jesus, could do.

But what happens when the novelty wears off? This is the challenge that each of us Christians faces today. How do we keep the Good News not only good, but also news? The keys seem to be prayer, listening, engaging. From there our faith is constantly refreshed, so that the fresh presence of Jesus in our day-to-day lives is news indeed.

Let us pray: Dear Jesus, give me Good News today! Help me to see the newness, the life in all things around me. Help me to share that newness with the people I meet today.
