Glory to God!

From today’s Scripture: “Let my tongue be silenced, if I ever forget you!”—Ps 137
St. Irenaeus said, “God did not tell us to follow him because he needed our help, but because he knew that loving him would make us whole.” Today the Church remembers a saint who helped guide it through some challenging times. The bishop Irenaeus lived from about 130-202 AD. He battled heresies and wrote on numerous theological topics. But today he may best be remembered for a quote that has long been banner material: “The glory of God is man [read persons] fully alive.”
Every utilized talent or gift from across the spectrum screams AMEN to his observation. My very tiny musical ability enables me to be in awe of true musicians as I marvel at what sounds their hands or lips can evoke from an instrument. Which raises the question: what are we doing with our gifts? Are they being nurtured to the “max”? We don’t have to use words to say, GLORY TO GOD!
Let us pray: Lord, thank you for the particular gifts you’ve given me—and let me not be envious of the ones you’ve given to others. May we joyfully share those gifts so that you may be glorified.
