St. John Bosco

Our name in God

From today’s Scripture: He asked him, ‘What is your name?’”—Mk 5:9

That question in today’s Gospel is a question that Jesus asks the demon who is possessing the outcast man. But it’s a question that Jesus asks each of us: “What is your name?” In that question is the deepest one. Who am I? Do I accept the name, the person, that God has given to me? Am I my deepest self in God, or do I ignore who God is calling me to be? St. Francis of Assisi said, “I am who I am in God—no more, no less.” Those are words to live by.

Let us pray: Loving God, help me to be who you want me to be today. Make my life one that mirrors your life. Let me reflect that grace to others today; let me rest in that wholeness tonight.
