St. John the Apostle

Fellowship in Christ

From today’s Scripture: …“What we have seen and heard we proclaim now to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; for our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We are writing this so that our joy may be complete.”—1Jn 1:3-4

In the midst of our busy lives, we may feel inclined to not prioritize going to church. Those of us who have been committed to a particular faith community for some time may feel disillusioned with some of the day-to-day reality of parish life—the pressures of ministry, gossip, people who annoy us, and so on. In such moments, it may help to ponder this passage.

We gather in fellowship because of our shared faith in Christ. As Catholic Christians, it is in the celebration of the Eucharist, in communion with others, that we find our greatest joy. May that eternal source of joy in Christ be what draws us back to community, time and time again.

Let us pray: Today, let me faithfully, joyfully, proclaim your gospel, Lord. It is Christmastime!
