Nurturing the word of Christ

From today’s Scripture: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; giving thanks to God the Father through him.”—Alleluia verse

I have been gardening a lot recently, and one thing I particularly enjoy is how gardening relates to the spiritual life. How do you let the word of Christ dwell within you? First, you must plant the seed. Then, you need to water it and nurture it so it can grow deep roots. Then comes the necessary pruning and weeding to create an environment for it to thrive. It’s a continual process—you can’t water and weed one week and forget about it the next. The same is true about the spiritual life. Let us be strengthened to nurture the word of Christ in our hearts, week after week, so it may dwell in us richly.

Let us pray: Lord God, show me today the areas in my life that are in need of watering and pruning to let your word grow in me more abundantly.
