Follow Jesus
From today’s Scripture: “Some Pharisees and Herodians were sent to Jesus to ensnare him in his speech.”—Mk 12:13-17
How often are we like the Pharisees and Herodians of today’s Gospel? In our sinfulness we look for loopholes in Jesus’ speech or the teachings of the Church. We wonder, how much can we get away with? But just as Jesus isn’t fooled in this story, the fact is there’s no way around the truth.
We cannot trick or out-think the Lord. We can only follow Him. Our greatest happiness and joy will come from following Jesus completely, not in looking for an easier path.
Let us pray: Lord help us to embrace everything you teach us. Make us worthy of the name Christian.
