St. Polycarp

Daily Reflection

St. Polycarp

Listen to God’s voice.

From today’s Scripture: “Moses said to the people, I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live, by loving the LORD, your God, heeding his voice, and holding fast to him. For that will mean life for you”—Dt 30:18

Seems simple and straightforward doesn’t it? The choice is simple—choose life or death. Stark. While it may seem like choosing between good and bad we all know sometimes the line seems to be a bit blurred. In order to heed the voice of God we must listen to God’s voice, to ponder the word of God, to reflect seriously what he asks of us and what he wants of us. “If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts….” Let us today choose life and the blessing, heeding the voice of the Lord and loving the Lord, our God.

Let us pray: Father, give us today the wisdom to listen to you, to discern your will for us and to hold fast to you that we might always choose life. Give me this day to love you with all of my heart, my mind, my entire being.
