Kingdom come

From today’s Scripture:And when the grain is ripe, he wields the sickle at once, for the harvest has come.” Mark 4:29

This Scripture passage comes immediately before the famous parable of the mustard seed. Both parables focus on growth in the natural worldcorn or a mustard seed bush. Metaphorically, however, the parables speak of the growth of the Kingdom of God. This happens over time, but eventually it will reach maturity and be ready for harvest.

As children of the kingdom of God, how are we growing? Do we contribute to the growth of our fellow believers? Will we be ready for the harvest? All good questions to ponder. But before the questions become too lofty or daunting, we may remember that faith often begins as small as a mustard seed, but matures into a metaphorical bush and a home for others.

Let us pray: Heavenly Father, help me in my own process of growth as I seek to encourage those on this journey of faith with me.
