Promise of eternal life

From today’s Scripture: “And this is the promise that He made us: eternal life.” —1 Jn 2:25
The basics: “Watch your step.” “Keep your eye on the ball.” “Look both ways.” Often when things go awry, it’s because we’ve drifted from the basics. A football coach once told me “We use the KISS technique here: Keep It Simple, Stupid!” That can apply to the spiritual life as well as football.
In the first reading today, St. John reminds us of a core fact: eternal life—something we learned in Faith 101. And this promise changes everything. No matter how wonderful the things this world has to offer, the reality is…they end. We can lose sight of Christ’s promise which should be the guiding force of how we live.
Let us pray: Dear God, help me to not lose sight of what truly matters—that which will ultimately unite me with You, forever.
