“She’ll work me to death!”

From today’s Scripture: “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things.”—Lk 10:41
A friend shared a story about his two daughters: Martha, 10, and Mary, 7. As he and his wife were leaving for a meeting he said, “Mary, listen to Martha and do what she says.” Mary replied, “Please don’t leave me with her, Daddy; she’ll work me to death!” I wonder if this modern story resembles our Biblical characters’ story. While Jesus praises Mary’s choice in today’s Gospel, both sisters possess an important quality necessary for believers who need to be both “hearers” and “doers” of the Word.
Let us pray: Lord, please do not let the busyness of my life prevent me from just being with you.
