Sts. Peter & Paul

Faithful to the end

From today’s Scripture: “I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.”—2 Tim 4:7

On my jacket lapel, I wear two pins: one of the Glenmary logo, the other a TAU cross—sometimes referred to as “the Franciscan Cross.” (The pins do have a practical application apart from the spiritual: At large priest gatherings, it’s easier to identify your black coat among 40 others!) For St. Francis the tau’s message was: “Be faithful to the end.” I appreciate that exhortation. I believe the world does, too, as we honor milestones and anniversaries.  I know I don’t live my vocation perfectly, but I intend to strive to imitate St. Paul as he poured out his life in ministerial service. May we all in our respective vocations catch that spirit.

Let us pray: O Lord, in the midst of the many times I fall short, help me to keep my focus on the goal of being faithful to you—to the end.
