Third Monday of Advent

God is with us

From today’s Scripture: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’”—Mt. 1:23

Advent has a wonderfully positive message for all of us, not that we have become famous by winning some grand prize, but that God is with us. If I stay with the external celebration of Christmas decorations, parties, dinners, and gift-giving, I might miss this message and find Christmas empty, too. But, when I accept Isaiah’s and Matthew’s teaching, I realize that the God of the universe is with me and for me, and I am overwhelmed by God’s love for me, a sinner.

Let us pray: Jesus, I have never been loved by anyone as deeply as I have been loved by you. Please, stay with me, always.
