Praise and trust

From today’s Scripture: “Therefore your servant now finds the courage to make this prayer to you. And now, Lord God, you are God and your words are truth; you have made this generous promise to your servant.” —2 Sam 7:27-28
King David prays this prayer to the Lord after his house, or kingdom, had been firmly established in Israel. David’s prayer serves as a great example of praise and trust in the Lord. It also demonstrates that we are able to initiate prayer, or conversation, with God as David does in the first line of the Scripture passage. The passage also emphasizes that everything centers on God with the repetition of the word “you”— you are God, your words are true, you have made this generous promise…
May we use David’s prayer as a guide, to initiate and focus our prayer not always on ourselves and our own needs and worries, but on God and his faithfulness and generosity.
Let us pray: Lord, fill me with confidence to begin a relationship with you in prayer as I ponder your Word, truth and generosity at work in my life.
