Third Tuesday of Lent

First step in forgiveness

From today’s Scripture: “So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives your brother from your heart.”—Mt 18:35

We pray the Lord’s prayer at Mass and while saying the rosary, maybe more than any other prayer. In this prayer we ask for forgiveness. The prayer continues as we say, “We forgive those who have offended us.” Are we able to forgive others? Maybe the offense is so great or it is too soon. Our Lord tells us to forgive. In our hearts, we feel we can’t. Our first step in forgiveness is to pray for the person or group who has harmed us. We need patience and the grace of God to forgive. Praying to forgive is a good first step.

Let us pray: Lord thank you for the many times you have forgiven me. I pray I can forgive others from the heart.
