Bear your cross

From today’s Scripture: “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” —Lk 9:23

Sometimes being a Christian doesn’t sound like a lot of fun. If we have to take up our cross daily, it sounds like a life of suffering. To be fair, we will all suffer in life, but Christianity is a religion not of sadness, but of joy. We get to live in the knowledge that we are following Jesus and doing God’s will, which is fulfilling. And of course, at the end of the line, there’s heaven.

So, while we will have crosses to bear in this life, we can offer them up and bear them with the knowledge that the suffering is temporary. Eternal life with Jesus is forever.

Let us pray: Jesus, help me to bear my crosses with patience, remembering the joy that is to come.
