Help us to serve.

From today’s Scripture:“The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.” —Mt 20:28
A woman I know worked at a prestigious violin shop. The owner of this shop was one-of-a-kind, a father-figure to many, a mentor, and friend. Even though he had many people working for him, and plenty of money to afford a cleaning service, she would often find him scrubbing the toilet.
Consider this: that a man of his position would continue to take on what most would consider felt to me like the lowest task of the whole business! But what an important lesson he was teaching — redefining the actions we associate with leadership and status, tearing down the world’s mindset that as we rise in position we become too good to take on menial tasks.
Even the “Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve.” Jesus calls us to be servant leaders, who follow his example. Challenge yourself to perform one act of service today, and know that your actions are seen and known by the perfect leader who loves you completely, our Christ.
Let us pray: Lord, increase my passion to serve others. Help me to identify situations where you’re calling me to serve, and give me the courage I need to respond like you.
